
Barry Meek serves as Deputy University Counsel and Senior Assistant Attorney General II at the University of Virginia. Barry joined the Counsel's Office in 2005. His work currently includes advice and counseling, litigation in state and federal courts, training, drafting and review of policies for departments and offices including Athletics; Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights; Title IX; Safety and Security (including University Police, Threat Assessment (TAT)), Emergency Management, Clery and Youth Protection; and Critical Incident Management (CIMT)); and Immigration. He also advises and represents the University’s College at Wise. For more than fourteen years, Barry advised the University's Division of Student Affairs. He also previously advised University Communications and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) officer. Before joining the University Counsel’s Office, Barry was in private practice at the law firm of Hunton & Williams in Richmond, Virginia where he practiced employment law and litigation. He received his law degree cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law and his B.A. cum laude from Roanoke College. He is a former police officer for the City of Roanoke Police Department.
