Bio

Amy E. Hensley serves as Associate University Counsel and Assistant Attorney General at the University of Virginia. Ms. Hensley oversees litigation and represents the University in federal and state court. She also advises on constitutional, federal, and state law compliance. Ms. Hensley also provides counsel and representation on Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights, Title IX, Athletics, Medical Malpractice, and Employment/Human Resources matters. Prior to joining the Office of University Counsel, Ms. Hensley served at the Office of the Attorney General as trial counsel for public colleges and universities, including the University of Virginia, and other state agencies in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ms. Hensley worked in private practice in the areas of general civil litigation, medical malpractice, and criminal law for more than eight years before joining the public sector. She holds a J.D. from William & Mary Law School and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Emory & Henry College. She also played four years of varsity basketball while obtaining her undergraduate degree. Ms. Hensley is a native of Southwest Virginia, where she grew up on a working farm.
